Calinet site reports & Statistics
How do i veiw my website statstics?
Login to your website statistics account by entering in your specified username and password in the above panel.
Once logged in please click the View Report button to open the stats.
Use the left hand menu to navigate through the various options. The default date range is weekly - the previous week showing - but this can be changed by clicking month or year down the bottom on the left hand side (LHS). Again you can scroll through various weeks, months or years by using the forward and back arrows next to the date. The date that you are looking at is displayed up at the top of the report.
You can then use the LHS menu to choose various displays - ie most viewed pages, referrals etc. The visitors to your site is displayed as sessions - so 50 sessions per day = 50 users. Hits is a technical term for images, text and icons loaded on the page and therefore is always greater.
Have you Forgotten Your Password?
If you have forgotten your password, for security we will need to reset the stats password. Please call 0870 740 1475 and ask one of our techical team to reset the password. You can also request this change by sending an email to email@calinet.co.uk - stating the email address in question and your contact details to reply.
What on earth does Hits, Visits, Page Views, sessions mean?
Hits - A hit is one download of one file from your web site. So, if your home page is comprised of three images, a style sheet and the page itself, then every time a browser downloads that page, four hits are recorded. On some sites, a single page download can account for dozens of hits - while it may sound impressive to say 'my site got 10,000 hits this month', it's deceptive. Hits are a good measure of overall server usage, but they don't tell you much about site traffic.
Sessions - A session is one browser visiting your site, one time. So, if I come to your site 10 times in one day, that counts for 10 sessions. This is a better measure of traffic than a hit, clearly, but there's a problem that I can illustrate with this example: If everyone in your office has your site set as their home page, then every time they start their browser, they generate a new session on your server. Think about it - that means that 5 or 6 people can generate a lot of sessions, which doesn't necessarily give you an accurate look at your site's appeal. It's great to have folks come back to your site, but you need to know how many unique individuals see it, too.
Visits - That's where visits, or more specifically unique visits, come in. A unique visit is one visitor coming to your site any number of times in a given time period. So, if I come to your site 300 times in a month, I'll still only count as a single unique visitor for that month. You need to know how many unique individuals arrive at your site, because each unique visit starts a conversation, and each conversation is an opportunity (note that some reporting tools call a unique visit a unique session - it's confusing, I know, but if you see 'unique', chances are you're on the right track).
Page Views - A page view is one browser downloading one page, one time. Combined with visits, page views can tell you how successful your conversations are. If you have 100 unique visitors a day, and only 100 page views, that's a bad sign - that means each visitor is, on average, only viewing a single page of your site. If, on the other hand, you have 100 unique visitors and 500 page views, that's better - it means that folks are spending a little time looking around your site. Generally, a high page view to unique visit ratio is a good thing. Don't get carried away, though - if visitors are viewing a lot of pages per visit, they may be getting lost.

web terminology & glossary
SEO - Short for Search Engine Optimisation
The term used to help give your website the right information for your customers to find you on the internet through the use of search engines.
ISP - Internet Service Provider
This is the company that can help set up and sort out problems with your internet connection. Freeserve UK & BT Internet are ISP's in the United Kingdom.
URL - Pronounced "earls"
The address system used by the Internet to locate resources such as web sites. A URL includes the type of resource being accessed such as gopher or hypertext, the address of the server, and the location of the file. For example, the complete URL for the CaliNET's Web site is <http://www.calinet.co.uk/>. "http://" indicates the access method as Hyper Text Transfer Protocol. www.calinet.co.uk is the address of the server where the website is located.
Search Engines / Spiders / Robots / Web Crawlers
Internet search engines (eg Google, AltaVista) help users find web pages on a given subject. The search engines maintain databases of web sites and use programs (often referred to as "spiders" or "robots") to collect information, which is then indexed by the search engine. See SEO
CMS - Content Management Suite
An online based tool that allows customers to alter text, update offers and add new images that will update a website in real-time.
Web Hosting
The World Wide Web is a massive collection of web sites, all hosted on computers (called web servers) all over the world. The web server (computer) where your web site's html files, graphics, etc. reside is known as the web host. Web hosting clients simply upload their web sites to a shared (or dedicated) webserver, which the ISP maintains to ensure a constant, fast connection to the Internet.
ALT tags - Alternative text tags
Alt Tags ppear in place of images when the browser preferences are set for text only (image viewing option is turned off). Including them on your site enables visually impaired user reader programs (speech synthesizers) to read the alt tag aloud. The ALT tag is used to describe images on your website, for people that can't see them. Search engine spiders also can't see the images. They are also considered important by the search engines, to make sure customers with disabilities can also navigate throughout your site.
