Cali net History

The story of Cali Net began one day in 1998.

There wasn't much to look at, and the limited amount of space available quickly became a luxury. The word spread quickly across the industry and the interest in Cali Net amongst hotels grew rapidly.

Christmas came with the acquisition of Destinations in Scotland, a popular Scottish accommodation directory web site. This added 250 customers across the country to our existing 10 growing the company exponentially overnight.

As the customers and their requirements grew, we had to adapt to the way in which our products were presented and delivered. This lead to the creation of the now widely successful Hotel Select product - a combination of design, connectivity, email and web site hosting.

In April 1999 we moved into a stable building in the village, which we renovated to provide more space and allow for our rapid expansion. As the team grew, so did the office building, increasing from a single room to 5 offices, a conference facilities and office amenities over the course of 18 months.

By the end of the year we were focussing on developing new and exciting products for our customers. One of the most revolutionary was Hotel Select Extra - a content enhancement and management service. This allowed for customers to look after the information on their web site very easily and Hotel Select Extra was launched as a low cost add-on to the already popular Hotel Select Development product.

Hyde Park was the first field office we decided to open in June 2001. We decided to expand our service scope to encompass the whole of the United Kingdom, and an office in London was the first step to this.

When we look back over the past 5 years to see a company that started off with no financial backing in a hotel room has grown to be an industry leader across the nation, setting the standards for the market and helping over 300 businesses grow, adapt and embrace technology. We realise it is important to be reminded that anything is possible. We dared to have a dream and follow it proving that what can be imagined can be achieved.

During May 2000 we decided to move away from our remotely hosted servers in Manchester, Edinburgh and the USA, and build our own hosting and Internet services facility. By the end of the summer the Cali Net Network Operations Centre was launched intensifying our potential for product development and offering.

October 2001 was a key moment in the company's history when we merged with Innfinite Hospitality to become one of Scotland's leading Internet Hospitality consultancies.

During 2002 we built on continued growth and won some large accounts that have helped us to focus on development projects. 2002 was also a year which saw a lot of work behind the scenes as we moved database platform and recoded almost 25,000 pages of information. Our network is now considered to be one of the most prolific on the Internet in tourism and we reached a network record figure of over 20,000 people a day accessing our machines.

Well in to 2003 we now find ourselves as one of only 2 British Internet providers for the Hospitality Industry. Our Operations centre is now based in London, and we have a team of dedicated professionals to handle our fast expaning hardware requirements. 2003 has also seen the acquisition of Simply Reserve and we welcome over 100 new clients for hosting, and ecommerce services.

In 2004, we opened offices in Argentina and the beginning of 2005, some of our staff relocated to Dubai. We still retain a very high level of staffing, that has seen designers work from all around the globe, with 2006 becoming the year of New Zealand, where we moved into new premises in Invercargill. Our purchase of HotelReview Scotland allows us to also operate from offices in Edinburgh.

We still retain our Scottish feel wherever we are...serving Scotland since 1998.
